Say what you will about Seth MacFarlane’s stint as an Oscar host, but that Sound of Music gag was priceless. And then say no more, because there are more important things to talk about, like the financial trouble faced by the visual effects shops responsible for creating much of what the audience sees in Hollywood films—even the most ordinary things. (Who knew? I didn’t.)

This has been an interesting issue to educate myself about in part because I’ve always enjoyed listening to artisans geek out about their craft, no matter what their craft is. It’s the thread that joins my love of Inside the Actor’s Studio to Car Talk to So You Think You Can Dance. Also strong in that category: TMN’s Roundtables.
