Re. How to Walk in New York. Let me add a coda:

If you are walking down a sidewalk and you see somebody not looking where s/he’s going, THEY have the right of way.

They are busy people, and something much more important is happening elsewhere that is demanding their attention.

If you bump into a New Yorker on the sidewalk who’s not facing forward, accept your sometimes admittedly less than tactful admonition gracefully and be prepared to act properly next time, and yield to them.
