Letters From the Editor

Mirwais

Interesting site concept (it’s faux-Mac OS (which I like), it’s scribbled, it’s hot pink, it’s neat-o), but let’s do without that banner ad, eh? I mean, we’re already on the site…why tell people to go to it? And then link to the page we’re already on? I’m probably missing something really ironic here.

Unless, of course, the irony is that the link knocks through Sony Music Europe’s ad server, thus giving them more traffic (without having to provide an additional service) and making them all feel better about themselves. Hell, anything’s possible.

Further examination of the site will find Madonna’s praise of the man himself: ‘He is so incredibly smart and visionary. I listen to his stuff, and I think, ‘This is the future of sound.’’ Wow. I’d argue differently. After all, his music’s already accepted and influential: her Mirwais song (‘Music’) has infiltrated the airwaves to the extent that it’s hardly a representation of the future of music but rather the present. Such a faux-pas (I like the Gallic overtones in this particular blog: that’s two fauxs)…and this from the woman who wrote ‘Cherish’…I can’t understand it.

Side note: I like ‘Music.’

Secondary side note: I heard ‘Cherish’ today at the store. It’s inescapably catchy. You didn’t think this would be a full-on invective, did you?
