Oof

This past summer Oof visited New York City from Osaka. Having never been here before, she spent her days exploring, camera in hand, recording a personal log of New York City with an eye to the everyday (but hardly ordinary) people and things that surround us. And at the end of the summer she stayed up all night covering a friend’s kitchen table in tiny strips of pink tape. ANDREW WOMACK interviews her.

TMN: So, you’re back in Osaka now. How long were you here in New York?

OOF: 3 months.

TMN: How did you take all these photos (the ones of people on the street)? Did you just up and ask them to take their picture? Was anybody reluctant to let you take their picture?

OOF: yes,i just up & asked them. sometimes people said to me ‘what is this for?’ . & i told them’ just for me.’ but actually some people were reluctant to do it. i felt kind of blue. i made people angry sometimes when i took them without their permission.

TMN: What’d you do then? Just run away?

OOF: no,after i took ,i just told them ‘just for me.’

TMN: ‘Just for you?’

OOF: they asked me ‘what is this for?’ & I told them ‘just for me!’

TMN: What are your plans now that you’re back in Japan?

OOF: now i play a band .& i help my grand father ‘s shop! its really great shop. there are so fuckin many stuffs from high priced antiques to junks. & strange people gather to there. i almost always play though. i play the some instrumentals are sold like a guitar , toy keyboard, drums & see stuffs like the customers.

i m thinking about some interesting art projects with my friends. we don’t know yet . i wanna make a movie, performance, do the art events……apply my works for a lot more art contests .
